In Panda series, LeeLee Chan overlays a fabricated reality with stylized animal icons, employing re-construction and juxtaposition of existent yet “unreal” places and iconic forms. She amalgamates a place with the hidden human trace, as a way to engage with the constructed nature of places.
Chan is interested in what her medium can do in relation to how advertisements distort and dazzle the eye. Commenting on the contradictory relationship between human desires and natural necessities, Chan transforms images of luxury into lush fantasy spaces that seek to subvert the power behind “cuteness”.
